You ever needed something late at night and everything was closed except the local 7-Eleven? But you would try to talk yourself into waiting until the next day because you then thought about the cost you would have to pay at that store verses going to your local grocery store or maybe a store like Dollar General or Family Dollar, perhaps. The more you think about that need, the more prompt you are to give in. So what do you do? You go to 7-Eleven because you’re in desperate need. It was your last resort, but you had no other choice. You were even willing to pay the cost and step out of your comfort zone to get there.
Places of such are known as places of convenience or convenience stores. They have things that you may need when you cannot get them anyplace else, but are often your last place of choice. Not only that, convenience store items often double in cost simply because it knows that you wouldn’t have gotten it anywhere else while in need unless you planned otherwise or decided to hold out and wait. When you need something so bad, you’re often willing to pay the cost for it, right?
All of that being said, my question for you is……. Do you see God as a last resort? Do you see him as place of convenience for you when you run out of other options? Do you place him on standby and then pick him up where you left off after you’ve done whatever else you wanted to do?
We are living in a time where we often lack the ability to place and keep him first until we are tried by tribulation. There are many out there that claim to believe in him, love him and honor him, yet abandon his very existence until something happens; or straddle the fence and then pick up where they left off AFTER the damage was done. But yet in all of this, he STILL remains the same. His price doesn’t go beyond what we can afford to give even though we make him a convenience ourselves. Matthew 15:8 says it best, “These people honor me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.” In other words, easier said than done! God asks for ALL of us, not a mere portion on your time. He gave us ALL of him when he gave his life so that WE can be free. He doesn’t place us on the back burner and then come to us when he feels he needs us, because it’s not that he needs us; its that he has NEED OF US. And truth of the matter is, what we won’t do for God, there is someone else that is willing and able. But keep in mind that we reap even what we sow unto the kingdom. Pleasing and serving God is a commitment, not a convenience, so he shouldn’t be treated as such! This is why he instructs us to “Seek ye first the Kingdom of heaven and ALL its righteousness and then ALL of these things will be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33….. We are to seek his face and not his hand! In him, you have all that you need. He comes first! But just keep in mind that there is an inconvenience in convenience!
